Round the world adventurer Sarah Outen is preparing for the next stage of her 30-month voyage – rowing solo 4,500 miles across the Pacific Ocean.

Sarah, 26, of Oakham, is spending the winter at a marina south of Choshi on Honshu, Japan's largest island.

She is now planning and training for the next leg of her epic journey and hopes to take delivery of her seven metre rowing boat Gulliver today, once it has been released by Japanese customs.

Sarah, who hopes to set off in two months, said: "When Gulliver arrives, there's a lot to do installing all the navigational and communications equipment and all the different electrical gear I'll need for charging my laptop and satellite phone.

"There's the physical bits to do with safety and the rowing equipment and I need to be happy with all that.

"This year is all about the Pacific, rowing across it from Japan's east coast to Canada. The clock is now ticking and the ocean is calling."

Sarah set off from London in April last year, and started by kayaking across the channel to France.

From there, she cycled for five months, crossing a dozen or so countries including Germany, Poland, Russia, Kazakhstan and China.

After briefly revisiting Russia, she then kayaked and paddled her way to Japan.

She has notched up 12,000 miles for the trip so far.

Sarah became the youngest woman to row solo across the Indian Ocean in 2009, and faces a new challenge with the 4,500-mile Pacific row.

She said: "I'll be on my own for up to seven months out at sea. The isolation can be daunting. I'll have no physical support out there with me, but will be able to contact people.

"Few have attempted to row across the North Pacific before and one man died in the attempt. I'm hoping to do it in 150 days."

Sarah is raising money on this adventure for breast cancer charity Coppafeel, The Jubilee Sailing Trust, the MND Association (motor neurone disease charity) and WaterAid.
