School pool cleared for demolition
A school swimming pool will be demolished next month to make way for classrooms.
Members of Leicestershire County Council's development control committee agreed to demolish the pool at Danemill Primary, in Enderby, and replace it with six classrooms and parking spaces.
The decision was made despite 19 objections from pool users and swimming coaches.
Danemill is split over two sites – Mill Lane and Townsend Road. Teachers want to move all pupils to Mill Lane – where the pool is situated.

One parent, whose son attends a swimming club at the pool, said: "It's a huge shame to be losing such a good facility, which was very popular.
"Although the council said there is a leisure centre nearby for children to use, it won't provide the same dedicated space for one-to-one lessons."
Head teacher Paul Vipond said uniting the school on one site would benefit children.
He said: "It makes a lot of sense to have all the children and staff together.
"At the moment, we're separated by a third of a mile, which makes it impossible to do any whole-school activities.
"The pool was in need of repair and that comes at a great expense. We felt that as there is a leisure centre very close by, there's a good alternative."
The county council is proposing to reduce the school intake because of falling rolls.
