Scottish societies get together for ceilidh
LEICESTER: More than 80 members and friends of Leicester Caledonian Society enjoyed a ceilidh at Thurnby village hall on Saturday organised by honorary secretary Dorothy Rice.
Presidents or representatives of other Scottish societies in the East Midlands attended.
DISEWORTH: The annual Parish Church meeting will be held at Diseworth Parish Church from 7.30pm on Thursday.
BRAUNSTONE: Members of the Monday Friendly Club who meet at Braunstone Civic Centre bought Rainbows merchandise and made a donation when their guest speaker was Pauline Wells of Great Glen. She gave them a talk about when she trained as a nurse at Leicester General Hospital.
LEICESTER: A bring-and-buy book sale will be held at the Welford Road Cemetery Visitor Centre on Saturday.
The event provides an opportunity to learn about The Friends of the Cemetery group and chat to members.
The sale runs from 10am to 3pm. Refreshments will be available.
LOCKINGTON AND HEMINGTON: The next meeting of Lockington and Hemington Parish Council will be held tomorrow at 7.30pm. It is at the Village Hall, Hemington Lane, Lockington.
GREAT GLEN: Celebrations of 100 years of Leicestershire scouting and the worldwide centenary of guiding were marked when Great Glen cub scouts and brownies met in the village scout hut. Their guest was Pauline Wells, who started the 1st Great Glen brownies.
MEASHAM: Measham Leisure Centre has introduced a new fitness class to its programme this month.
Zumba, a new fitness trend combining easy to follow dance moves with a Latin rhythm, started today at 9.45am.
