It is already one of the hottest topics on website forums and pubs and clubs in the city.

Which team will Leicester City manager Paulo Sousa send out against Crystal Palace a week tomorrow to usher in another era in the club's turbulent history?

Sousa has offered a few clues with his team selections during City's pre-season campaign which concludes tomorrow with the visit of Premier League Sunderland to the Walkers Stadium (3pm).

Striker DJ Campbell has made a stunning impression in the warm-up programme with five goals in as many games.

It is quite an irony, really. The man whose face did not fit last season is now looking likely to be one of the first names on the team-sheet pinned up in the away dressing room at Selhurst Park.

Possibly the only decision which Sousa has to make regarding Campbell is where to play him? Last weekend, in the 1-1 draw at Oxford, he played on the right side of a midfield four behind Matty Fryatt and Steve Howard.

At Peterborough on Tuesday, he partnered Fryatt up front in a thumping 5-1 win for City.

Fryatt – with just one goal so far in pre-season – looks a little jaded after his long lay-off with a broken jaw.

By contrast, Campbell scored in both games and is arguably suited to either role.

So Fryatt, despite his goal exploits of the past two seasons, could be on the bench. However, I suspect Sousa will go for the Fryatt-Howard partnership, particularly with Howard's two-goal impact off the bench at London Road.

If Campbell, who has impressed Sousa with his fitness and attitude, wins a midfield spot it will be three from four to occupy the other spots.

Making the assumption that Paul Gallagher will not quite be ready for the Palace match because of a thigh pull, Richie Wellens and Andy King look certain starters.

Against Oxford – for the first half at least – they formed a very impressive combination with Wellens in the holding role and King pushing on.

King was on the scoresheet against Peterborough in midweek while Wellens' probing and passing fits the Sousa identikit.

It then looks like a straight fight between Lloyd Dyer and Matt Oakley for the final berth – and it is a tough one to call.

Dyer offers a greater attacking threat but, with Campbell and King already in there, Sousa may opt to turn to Oakley, who has bags of Championship games under his belt.

Keeper Chris Weale will then have a defensive line-up in front of him which probably just has one position still to be decided on.

Winger Nicky Adams has featured at right-back in much of the pre-season action and I would expect him to continue in the new role against Palace.

But Sousa will have watched Robbie Neilson put in a decent showing at Peterborough, including an assist for Campbell's goal.

Some City fans remain unconvinced about the Scottish defender and he had fallen out of favour with Pearson. But, with nearly 250 appearances under his belt, he is the most experienced member of the squad in that position, which might count for something.

The other members of the back three pick themselves, particularly as Miguel Vitor is still receiving treatment for a thigh strain.

Michael Morrison and Jack Hobbs will be at the heart of the defence with safe-as-houses Bruno Berner at left back.

Possible team for Palace game: Weale, Adams, Morrison, Hobbs, Berner, Campbell, King, Wellens, Dyer, Fryatt, Howard.

“Good on you Chappy get stuck into the loser.

He probably won't be ready by 10am he only wears pyjama's all day and carpet slippers.

He also has his breakfasts for a week all over the front of his jamas, porridge, serial, honey.

He never showers, and stinks like a pig. Leave him wallowing in his own yard Chappy. You enjoy the game at Selhurst Park.

    Up the city!!”
