Speedway: Leicester Lions get a mauling
Leicester Lions suffered a heavy defeat in their Premier League fixture at Redcar.
It was not a performance befitting a team that had already reached the play-off stage.
The Lions struggled to contain a Redcar outfit, who currently sit below halfway in the table, and were soundly beaten 59-35.
Only captain Kauko Nieminen, and to a lesser extent Magnus Karlsson and Lasse Bjerre, prevented the Bears running up a bigger winning margin.

The Elliott-sponsored Lions started well with a 4-2 win thanks to Nieminen and Jan Graversen.
But their expected challenge never materialised and they had to wait until the 11th heat before registering their next points' advantage when the same pairing out-scored the home riders.
In between, the Lions shared the points in heats five, six and seven through wins for Nieminen, Karlsson and Bjerre, but the trio did not have the back-up to secure the minor places.
The Lions were at Edinburgh last night, and travel again, this time to Workington Comets tonight for their final Premier League fixture.
Redcar 59: Ulrich Ostergaard 9+1, Carl Wilkinson 6+2, Kevin Doolan 9, Aaron Summers 12+2, Matej Kus 11+1, Max Dilger 7+1, Jade Mudgway 5+2.
Lions 35: Kauko Nieminen 13, Jan Graversen 3, Lasse Bjerre 6, Linus Eklof 2, Magnus Karlsson 9, Jari Makinen 2+1, Lewis Blackbird 0.

“Lions were mauled at Edinburgh last night too. Over the years nothing has really change in speedway with away teams not just frequently losing away but performing often riding poorly too?
Why?”
