The return of speedway to Leicester last year fulfilled a dream for many. Later this month, some will realise an even bigger dream by actually riding there.

The My First Skid Speedway School will be coming to Beaumont Park, the home of the Elliott-sponsored Leicester Lions, on Saturday, February 25.

It is aimed at riders of all ages and ability, from the outright beginners to those wishing to improve their technique and performance.

All places have already been snapped up, but the good news is that further training days are planned for later in the year.

Barry Bishop, of My First Skid, is delighted to be staging the event for the first time in the city.

"Leicester is a fabulous facility for speedway," he said. "I appreciate the efforts of (promoter) David Hemsley and (co-promoter) Alan Jones to make this happen.

"The use of the stadium will provide our regulars and newcomers with the opportunity to take to the largest track we have visited.

"As this February day is fully subscribed we have been in talks with the Leicester promotion and agreed two additional dates.

"The first is for the under-18 age group on Sunday, July 15, and a further event for all ages has been confirmed for Saturday, September 8."

Hemsley said: "We are really pleased to be able to host My First Skid and have agreed two additional dates to be used for further training.

"We are delighted that there will be a day set aside purely for the under-18 age group.

"We wish, as a club, to grow the opportunities for people to ride speedway bikes on our track and we feel this is an excellent venture for Leicester Speedway to partner with."

Training gets under way at Beaumont Park at 10pm, and runs through to 4pm. Spectators are welcome and entrance is free.
