Speedway plans get a green light
Speedway is set to return to Leicester for the first time in 26 years after plans for a new £4.5m stadium were approved.
City councillors last night voted unanimously to give Beaumont Sports Complex (BSC) the go-ahead to start work on a state-of-the-art speedway track at Bennion Road, Beaumont Leys.
The complex, behind the leisure centre, will also have a community, sports and education centre, 12 five-a-side football pitches, a BMX track and a cycling velodrome to replace the one lost from Saffron Lane.
It is hoped the speedway track will be ready in time for Leicester Lions to make a return in March next year.
