Big-hearted National Grid staff have earned a platinum-plated pat on the back for their involvement with the community.

National Grid Hinckley, which employs about 1,400 people, has been named one of Britain's most socially responsible businesses.

It was one of seven in Britain to attain the Platinum Plus level in Business in the Community's corporate responsibility index.

The awards recognise companies which have a positive impact on communities and the environment and act responsibly in all aspects of business.

Staff at National Grid's Brick Kiln Street offices, have been taking part in a range of community activities.

They include supporting athletes with learning difficulties in their efforts to reach the Special Olympics, revitalising wildlife havens, helping children brush up their reading and maths skills and giving practice job interviews to teenagers.
