Nigel Stirk and Liz Cocks have flown the flag for the county as they both ran to victory in the half-marathon.

Stirk, a fireman from Leicester, was first across the line in 72:39, while Cocks, of Birstall Running Club was the fastest female, running the 13.1-mile distance in 79:31.

Stirk won the event in 2010 but was unable to compete last year, pulling out through injury just days before the race.

The 40-year-old said it feels good to win again. "It was a good win – I worked hard though," he said.

"It's always nice to do it on your turf on the local scene."

Matt Adcock, of Hermitage Harriers, came in second in 74:56, while Tom Bells, of Owls Athletics Club, took third place in 75:38.

Liz Cocks said it felt good to be first over the line.
