Stop berating meat-eaters!
Here we go again, having the views of Ms Allison (Mailbox, April 2) foisted upon us over farm animals.
I and thousands of others like me will decide for ourselves on the choice of lifestyle we wish to adopt and we will not be "told" by any animal rights activists what is right or wrong.
Animals, in general, are "farmed" for human consumption. Accept that fact, as it has been the way since God created the earth. Your will will not be imposed upon us!
As far as I'm concerned, Ms Allison's argument has lost all credibility because of her insistence that we should all stop eating meat and copy her way of life. Well, that isn't going to happen and it's about time she and her ilk understood it.
I may well be criticised, unfairly, because I am a meat eater and that alone entails animals to be slaughtered. As she has already alluded to, there are laws already in force and if they are being breached the perpetrators should be taken to task but, please, do not continue to vilify those of us who enjoy eating meat as part of a wholesome diet.
By all means, if there is lawbreaking going on, report it to the appropriate authorities instead of berating those who have a different view and habit. We are not the problem.
David Hankey, Great Easton.

So why are you telling others what is right or wrong. Really David of Gt Easton, you are at least as bad yourself.
As for me, if the Con clone government allows the slaughter of badgers as an unscientific sop to beef farmers, I for one will stop eating beef altogether.”

“I'm sorry to disappoint, m le3, but I won't be taking your advice and I doubt whether you really expected me to.
The fact of the matter is folk such as the misguided Ms.Allison and her ilk need attacking. Without opposing their stupid, ideological and extreme views they would hold the floor, get their pathetic argument over without any redress whatsoever.
I want a response from this woman because she is so wrong. I repeat, it is NOT the meat-eaters that are the problem in all of this and until she realises the error of her ways I will not be silenced!!
PS. BTW, thank you for your support, Graham.”

“"
If we just ignore this extremeist, anti-meat propaganda continually propounded by this lady, we give it a validity that it does not deserve.
"
The opposite is the case surely? If you ignore something then you are giving it no validity at all, you are saying that it isnt important enough to acknowledge.
Would you rather be ignored because people were bored by what you had to say - or confronted by people that felt strongly about your opinions, and wanted to disagree with you? My bet is that the former would trouble you more than the latter.
Incidently, I dont agree in ignoring everything, but until Ms Allisons starts encouraging violence against meat-eaters, she is just an individual with an opinion - like all the rest of us.”

“The writer must be the famous David, Great Easton, Rural Leicestershire who frequently posts to these pages.
He once criticised me for writing a letter that he thought was trivial, just like you criticise him now - m of le3.
But I actually agree with every word David has written and, much more than this, I would promote and support not only his absolute right to write this letter but, moreover, the great importance of so doing.
If we just ignore this extremeist, anti-meat propaganda continually propounded by this lady, we give it a validity that it does not deserve.”

“Why oh why oh why write a letter to the LM about this, which is bound to illicit a response from Ms Allison in a few days - which is then bound to wind you up some more? :)
Step away from the preachy vegetarian person and dont worry about it - its not like she has any power to do anything apart from write letters is it? ;)”
