Music students are staging a concert to raise money for the RSPCA in Leicester.

Teenagers from Guthlaxton College, in Wigston, are staging the event on Friday, May 4.

The dozen instrumentalists and singers are members of the Rockschool course, which helps them develop performance skills.

Music teacher Chris Hirst said: "The project has been running since September and, as part of the course, the students have to set up a production company to promote and put on an event."

He said the course was similar to a BTEC and filled a gap in the music curriculum for those wanting to perform popular music by singing or playing guitars, keyboards, and drums.

They will also be responsible for promoting the event, organising marketing and producing posters.

Mr Hirst added: "The concert will feature the students in various line-ups and will include acoustic as well as amplified pieces by the musicians."

Proceeds will go to the RSPCA's Woodside Animal Centre, in Braunstone Frith.

Tickets for the concert are £3 in advance and £5 on the door. Call the college on 0116 288 1611.

“What a nice idea, I hope all goes well and might even try and come down to support it if I am not working.”
