Newbold Verdon powered to a stunning victory at Woodhouse Eaves, knocking the hosts off the top of the Premier Division table in the process.

Woodhouse fielded an under-strength side and, after being put in to bat, were skittled for 58 in 23 overs.

Opening bowlers Luke Dyke and Paul Bateman claimed 5-20 and 2-22 respectively, and leg-spinner Mark Bird took 2-22.

Newbold skipper Neal Bateman said: "Luke was awesome, Paul bowled very well and Mark will take wickets on anything.

"There was variable bounce but we bowled very well."

The Newbold bowlers were backed up by some smart work in the field, particularly by Matt Gramsden. He ran out Woodhouse opener Sam Skeet despite being off balance when he collected the ball and having only one stump to aim at.

Nick Collins hit 35 not out for Woodhouse, but no-one else reached double figures.

Newbold raced to their target for the loss of one wicket in 15 overs.

Batemen said: "We thought some other teams might not believe the result when they saw it. But we deserved it. We played well."

Birstall Village took full advantage of Woodhouse's slip to go back on top, beating Huncote by 43 runs.

Skipper Dave Sharpe (71) and his brother Rich (56 not out) steered Birstall to 187-8 in 45 overs.

Opener James Swann held the Huncote reply together with 44 and Kristian Barker provided a late flourish with a quickfire 42. But seamer Mark Forknall (4-39) and off-spinner Pete Sharpe 3-24) bowled them out for 144.

Only one batsman reached 20 at Broughton Astley and that was Appleby Magna skipper Matt Richardson, whose 71 not out proved decisive.

He guided his team to 141-8 in 45 overs despite Simon Larke taking five wickets for the hosts.

Broughton were all out for 63 in reply, with Dominic Mirner taking 3-6 and Stan Kirkland 3-5.

Leicester Caribbeans turned in a good all-round performance to beat Bharat Sports by seven wickets.

Seamers Imran Ashiq (4-43) and Mohammad Khan (3-48) restricted Bharat Sports to 193-8.

Marlon Porter then hit 74 and Azim Mahmood 50 as Caribbeans won with seven wickets and 13 overs in hand.

Visitors Twycross were two-wicket winners in an exciting clash against Leuva Patidar. The home side were all out for 165 in 43.4 overs, with seamer Dave Rose taking 5-26.

Lee Taylorson (41) and Jordan Lee (27) were the mainstays of the Twycross chase, with medium-pacer Satu Patel taking three wickets for Leuva Patidar.

Taylorson fell to the first delivery of the final over from Rohit Patel with one run still needed.

But Twycross got home with two balls to spare.

Burton-on-the-Wolds' batsmen found it difficult to force the pace against Wigston.

Ross Deabill needed 22 balls to get off the mark and eventually reached 22 off 104.

Ian Lang provided a late boost with 39 not out off 32 deliveries as Burton closed on 131-8.
