The secret to creating your own look is all about shopping from both ends of the high street spectrum, reckons Melanie Edwards.

Her monthly allowance is sensibly spent on one or two key pieces to update the wardrobe, alongside a few cheap and cheerful items to liven things up.

If she's wearing Primark, Melanie knows it takes a well-chosen necklace or bright bag to move an outfit on from the production line look.

"I like accessorising with jewellery and little pieces," she says.

"Sometimes I'll wear brooches. I get basics like long-sleeved T shirts from Primark and buy other things to make them look different."

Melanie is a big fan of the grungy, rock look, which explains her love of All Saints.

"I spend all week at work having to dress really smart so I like to do the rock chick thing when I can," she says.

"I'll dress differently depending on what I'm doing, so if I'm going on a girly night out, I like to wear a nice dress.

"I'm also a big fan of little shorts and playsuits." Another not-so-secret tip is online favourite Asos.

"That's quite cool," says Melanie. "I work long hours and I've got quite a busy lifestyle so I'm usually too knackered to spend a lot of time shopping. It's good to be able to do it online."
