HUCKNALL hurdler Andy Turner admits undergoing surgery and sacrificing next year’s indoor season will all be worth it if he makes the final of the World Championships in the summer.

The 32-year-old has had what he describes as a ‘poor’ year suffering injury problems, namely to his Achilles, and failing to make the 110m hurdles final at the London 2012 Olympics.

He has since opted to go under the knife to remove a plantaris tendon and have both his Achilles tendons scraped in order to rid himself of the pain he has felt this year.

The surgery will rule Turner out of next year’s indoor season, which culminates at the European Championships in Gothenburg in March, as he recovers.

However Turner insists having a successful World Championships in Moscow in 2013 and making up for what he failed to achieve this year is the most important thing on his to do list.

“I’m just trying to get pain free so I can train fully and have a good outdoor season and make amends for a poor 2012,” said Turner.

“At present I haven’t set myself exact targets but to make the world final and to break my personal best, are two things I’m confident I can do if I’m pain free.

“It sounds a lot worse than it is. I should be back in full training by Christmas, so unfortunately indoor this year will not be happening.”
