Crash survivor thanks his rescuers
A man who suffered horrific injuries in a road accident is holding a fund-raising event tonight to say thank you to the emergency crew which saved his life.
Michael Dilks, of Kirby Bellars, was injured when the car he was driving was crushed by an articulated lorry on the M6, near the Catthorpe interchange, south of Lutterworth, on June 23.

An air ambulance doctor performed an emergency tracheotomy by the roadside before he was airlifted to Walsgrave Hospital, in Coventry, where he spent three days on a life-support machine before doctors could operate on him.
To say thank you, the 56-year-old father is hosting a charity night at Syston Rugby Football Club, in Barkby Road. He has already raised more than £3,000 for the air ambulance charity.
The event will feature a tombola, auction, buffet and entertainment. To make a donation to the air ambulance, ring 0844 800 5710.

“That was a really nice way to thank them. I am sure they will use the money to help save people like you and me every day. True heroes not like footballers etc. Good on you and I hope you have recovered.”
