TRAVEL: Norfolk casts an enduring spell
Ah, Norfolk. With its miles of unspoilt coastlines, great seaside resorts, picturesque villages and historic market towns, it is arguably one of the best places the UK has to offer when it comes to holiday destinations.
Luckily for us here in Leicestershire, it's pretty much on our doorstep.
Just a short hop along the A47 and we're there on England's glorious East Coast.
Boasting some of the country's top beauty spots and attractions, it's no wonder we flock there in our thousands every year to enjoy holidays and short breaks.
As the "staycation" continues to grow in popularity as a result of the credit crunch, Norfolk is fast becoming one of our favourite places to visit in the UK.
It seems there's something for everyone in this county, regardless of age, interests and budget.
Whether you want to peruse the stately homes and learn about Norfolk's heritage, or just want a great family holiday, Norfolk has all the attractions you need for a fantastic time whatever the weather. For the kids there's a whole host of animals, wildlife and zoos including the Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary, Amazona Zoo in Cromer and Thrigby Wildlife Gardens in Great Yarmouth. There's also plenty to do in the form of theme parks such as Norwich's Dinosaur Adventure Park, Playbarn for the under-sevens and Oasis Sports and Leisure Centre.
If its heritage and history you're after, then why not take in some of the county's beautiful stately homes and attractions including the monastic ruins on Binham Priory or the peace and tranquillity of the Gooderstone Water Gardens.
If a trip to Norfolk is all about retail therapy for you, then you can indulge to your heart's content at such outlets as Castle Mall which has no less than 80 stores to browse, or why not visit the English Whisky Company to find out how it is made, before exploring its shop to see one of the biggest collections of Malt Whisky from around the world.
Visitors can also embrace their crafty side at The Courtyard where craftspeople take part in traditional and contemporary crafts of all kinds.
Whether you like to stay in the lap of luxury when on holiday, or are happy to do it yourself self-catering, Norfolk has pretty much every possible choice of accommodation from caravans to cottages, hotels to holiday homes.
If you're planning on relaxing and not lifting a finger, then boutique hotels and luxury B&Bs are on hand to cater to your every need. While campers and caravanners can enjoy great pitches and idyllic surroundings at such spots as Applewood Caravan and Camping Park, and Waveney River Centre which has lovely views of the marina.
