For two brewery owners, Malcolm and John seem remarkably incapable of organising – how shall I put this? – an alcohol-related event in their establishment.

Luckily for them, their wives could not only organise one, but sell tickets, market it and make a profit, too.

In the end, Gerry’s Big Decision (C4, 9pm) was an easy one – get rid of the useless blokes and employ the women.

Sir Gerry Robinson’s like Secret Millionaire, without the secret. Obvious Millionaire, if you like.

He’s off to see if he can save recession-hit businesses by pouring in his own dosh. In return for controlling stakes in their business.

A quick tour around the first brewery, Itchen’s, in Hampshire, almost has him running for the door. Boss Malcolm doesn’t talk to anyone and can’t make a decision,  head brewer Rob is a stroppy whinger and the sales rep doesn’t sell.

Sir Gerry’s not impressed: “It’s an utter waste of time to put money into a business that won’t work with the people involved in it.”

Then he meets Malcolm’s missus, Jane. She sold her house and put her £130,000 life savings into the brewery, ’cos she loves him. Ahh. She also knows Malcolm, while sweet, is a bit of an idiot. He doesn’t know much about sales, she confesses to Gerry.

Gerry puts her in charge for a week. “That’s it, is it?” sniffs stroppy Rob. “The big plan?”

“If you were working for me, I’d give you a right slap,” says Gerry, who’s smiling in a I’m-really-going-to-deck-you way.

Meanwhile, in Devon, the posh Liz and John O’Hanlon are struggling and need £200,000. Again, John is vague and woolly when asked questions while Liz is much more switched on.

It gets interesting when Gerry asks them to separately give him a sales pitch about what they want.

John tells him that Liz needs to “take a break”, Liz tells Gerry she wants to run the business.

John’s face when she tells him about her chat is priceless. All he can do is smile and nod – and pray Gerry doesn’t tell her about his plan to give her a “rest”.

In the end, Gerry gave them both the money they needed. You felt for Jane. Will he, won’t he? He does, hurrah. Lots of tears, hugs and more tears. If the brewery doesn’t work, I bet he’d give her a job anyway.

Even the most selfless saint would be hard pushed not to feel a twinge of jealousy for Ben, who won the Best Job in the World (BBC 1, 9pm) –  on a paradise island and getting paid.

But even my envious sneering stopped when I saw him reunited with his fiancee, whom he was going to marry on the island. “I’ve done it all for her, really,” he said.

Aawww.
