Makers Edge Taverners are celebrating a remarkable debut season.

They were formed following a merger of Makers Edge, who used to play in the Leicestershire League, and Leicester Taverners of the Senior League.

The new club, based at Gilmorton, fielded two sides and both have been promoted as champions.

The first team won 12 of their 18 matches in Division Two and the seconds landed 14 of their 18 games in Division Four.

Club secretary Mark Harris said: "We did not know what to expect, there were the players from two clubs gelling together. But we are absolutely delighted with how it's turned out."

“There was some team mixing but yes it was mainly as you stated, we didnt get any choice where the 2nd team was placed but hopefully both teams will find the right level in time!”

“Doesnt mention that the teams didnt actually mix, Makers Edge took over from Taverners first team and Taverners took the second team and won a division three divisions lower than the one they played in last season!”
