Teenage docu-soap launches on the internet
A drama for teenagers was being launched on the internet today to tackle myths about sex and relationships.
The six-part docu-soap has been made starring Leicestershire actors and was shot in the city.
It is the second part of a campaign by primary care trust NHS Leicester City to reduce teenage pregnancy rates in the city.
One in 20 girls aged 15 to 17 in the city gets pregnant.
The campaign began with a video on social networking site YouTube which appeared to show a girl giving birth on a school playing field.
That clip, filmed at Hamilton Community College, has now been viewed more than two million times.
Young people can tune in to each episode of the mini series and at the same time use the site to find answers to questions about sex and relationships.
Liz Rodrigo, a public health specialist, said: "The script was based on issues raised by young people during our research and we had lots of input from the actors who star in the series."
The storyline shows the characters making different choices about sex.
Ms Rodrigo said: "It is different from the kind of sex education film people of my generation will remember cringing at.
"By screening the drama on the website, young people can instantly get credible information and advice if the plot raises any concerns."
Episode one of the drama will be available from today at:
