The Met Office upgraded its cold weather alert to Level 3, stating that there was a 100% probability of “severe’’ conditions across most of England this week.
According to the Met Office temperatures will drop to as low as -6C (21.2F) tomorrow and on Thursday, when daytime maximums will be no more than 3C (37.4F).
Temperatures in Leicestershire are expected to hit a high of 2C and drop to -5C at night this week.
Leicester’s race meeting tomorrow could be hit by the freezing conditions. The course must pass an 8am precautionary inspection on the morning of racing.
Although the ground was raceable today, overnight temperatures are due to plummet.
Clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson said: "We're absolutely fine at the moment as there was no frost overnight. We have got a frost forecast - it's due to get to minus 3C - but, even if we require a couple of morning inspections, I'd be hopeful."
