Gaddesby: Members of St Luke's Church are embarking on a series of activities to help to fund the refurbishment of their 12th Century church. This will begin with a concert on Saturday May 16, at 7.30pm, when Melton Mowbray Orchestra will be performing a range of classical works.

In addition, there will be tours of the church and cream teas every Sunday afternoon in June, from 2.30pm to 5pm.

The tours will take place at 3pm and 4pm, and are free, but donations would be appreciated.

Cream teas will be served in the garden and there will be a plant stall.

St Luke's is a Grade I listed building and features in Simon Jenkins' book 1,000 Best Churches. Work is currently being carried out on the spire and part of the roof has been replaced. The next phase is to relay the floor in the nave, which is very uneven, repaint the interior walls and provide louvres for the tower.

To reserve concert tickets, which cost £8 for adults and £4 for children, telephone 01664 841184.

Wine and cheese will be served during the interval.
