Tenants are celebrating getting new kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems thanks to a £24m investment.

Mrs Coupe of Whetstone is among the final group of tenants to get the revamp from housing provider Three Oaks Homes.

It promised tenants they would upgrade all of their homes within five years of taking over ownership of the properties from Blaby District Council in 2008.

With work now completed on the last of 2,155 homes, the housing association, working with contractors Lovells and Michael Dyson Associates, has managed to complete the programme a whole year ahead of schedule.

Mrs Coupe is delighted with her new kitchen and bathroom. She said: "They're beautiful, much more special than I ever expected."

Since starting work on its investment programme in July 2009, Three Oaks Homes have fitted 1,577 kitchens, 1,430 bathrooms, 1,035 boilers, and upgraded the electrics in 1,971 homes.

The association has involved its tenants throughout the process – from setting the standard to which homes should be upgraded, to choosing the contractors and making sure the programme was completed on schedule.

Richard Rae, head of maintenance services at Three Oaks Homes, said: "The completion of the investment programme is fantastic news. All our homes now meet the Decent Homes Standard, which means tenants have modern facilities and services as well as efficient, effective heating systems."
