Supermarket chain Tesco has denied rumours it is to open a store in Clarendon Park, Leicester.
The shopping giant has been the subject of speculative Twitter messages, with a number of people claiming the chain is moving into the former Barclays bank building, in Queens Road.

Some have said they do not want the retail giant moving into the area, which is well known for its many independent shops.
However, a spokesman for Tesco said the rumours were not correct and the supermarket chain had no plans to open a store in Clarendon Park.

“I am thrilled to hear it is a rumour only; I do not want a Tesco in this neighbourhood. Yes, there is a Sainsbury's Local here already, which is more reason to prevent another chain supermarket from opening up. It will take business away from the neighbourhood butchers, baker and green grocers.”
