Five junior Melton Assassins members have spent a dream month training at the world-famous Jitty-Gym in Bangkok.

Troy Attewell and Elias Dexter, both 15, along with 13-year-olds Luke Kelly and Thai Barlow and 10-year-old George Griffiths, are all major title- winners, but the opportunity to train at the Jitty-Gym was the realisation of 12 months' fund-raising to make the dream come true.

The experience of training at the home of Thai boxing, as well as working with current world champions and top-ranked fighters, was something that could only improve the Melton juniors' technique and mental strength.

Attewell said: "It's been fantastic. Working with Thai boxers as good as these can only be a good thing. The best fighters in the world travel from all over to train at Jitty's and it's easy to see why. I'd love to go back for a year sometime."

In temperatures of up to 37 degrees and humidity of 97 per cent, the youngsters began training in the morning with a 45-minute run followed by 45 minutes of conditioning work.

The afternoon sessions lasted for up to three hours, and the Assassins were put through their paces by the most experienced pad men in Thailand.

Seven students from the Leicester Mixed Martial Arts Academy competed at Fight UK Amateur Championships, the county's biggest Mixed Martial Arts event to date, at the Hermitage Leisure Centre in Whitwick.

Six fighters won, including LJ Adams and Guy Lewis.
