Thieves stole a First World War silver medal when they raided a home in Bowley Avenue, Melton.

They broke into the property on Thursday, January 24, between 10.20am and 2.20pm.

A First World War silver medal which has a red, white and blue ribbon and is engraved, a men’s Rotary wrist watch with a black leather strap and a brass scales set with weights were stolen.

Also taken were solid silver items including a teapot with a black handle and salt and pepper pots.

Detective Constable Sam Bates, who is investigating the incident, said: “A number of distinctive silverware items were stolen from a glass display cabinet, some of the items are of great sentimental value to the victims especially the First World War medal which belonged to the victim’s family.
