There’s no shortage of events and activities to choose from over the weekend in Leicester and Leicestershire. The highlights have to be the city's Richard III related tour and exhibition plus Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival which kicks off on Friday. Plus half-term starts so we've chosen just a couple of child-friendly activities that run throughout the week too. 1. EVENT: Richard III exhibition - Leicester’s Search for a King at The Guildhall, Leicester.
From Friday, visitors can find out more about one of the most exciting archaeological discoveries of recent years with the opening of an exhibition at Leicester’s Guildhall.

Leicester Arts & Museum Service introduces the story behind this excavation, narrated by those working on the project.
The exhibition will allow visitors the chance to explore the historical and scientific evidence that has been gathered from the Greyfriars site.
The organisers are warning that queues may be likely as lots of people are expected to attend. When: Friday, 10am to 5pm; Saturday & Sunday 9am to 5.30pm. The exhibition runs until Saturday August 31, 2013 and will be open on weekdays too.

2. MORE RICHARD III: Richard III Guided Walking Tours meet at Leicester Cathedral, Guildhall Lane, Leicester.
Richard lll - The Leicester Connection is a guided walk around Leicester looking at the significant sites including the Bow Bridge, the Newarke, the site of the Blue Boar Inn, the recent excavation site and the new Richard lll exhibition at The Guildhall. 3. COMEDY: Leicester Comedy Festival at loads of venues around the city and county.
Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival is Britain’s longest-running comedy festival and was set up in 1994.This year there are over 520 shows across the 17 days. Highlights include the annual Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year Competition, the exclusive photo exhibition at Leicester train station, our Comedy in the Dark shows and Hotel D’Comedie – a unique comedy experience!

Just in case you're struggling to choose from the massive list of performers lined up, we've got our recommendation for the weekend - Milton Jones at De Montfort Hall in On The Road. He's "clever, surreal but mainly just stupid stupid stupid." When: Friday, 8pm.
4. FILM: Don Quixote at Phoenix Square, Midland Street, Leicester.
A chance to catch the 2011 performance of Don Quixote, a ballet in three acts with a prologue. Don Quixote, a nobleman obsessed with chivalry and romance, decides to go on a quest to accomplish great feats which will bring glory to his name. When: Sunday at 3pm (doors open 2.45pm). 4. CHILDREN: Space Fiction at National Space Centre, Exploration Drive, Leicester.
This weekend sees the start of the Space Centre's celebration of Science Fiction during February half-term. The centre will be celebrating the history, present and future of Science Fiction with a programme of special guests, fun activities and a special competition where you decide which is the ‘Best Science Fiction Book of All Time!’ When: Throughout half-term but this weekend's special guests are: Saturday - Kim Lakin-Smith, Ian Whates and Gareth Powell and then on Sunday - Alex Keller.

5. FAMILY: Owl week activities at Conkers, Rawdon Road, nr Swadlincote
Half-term at Conkers is sure to be a hoot as the rangers will be hosting ‘Owl Week’ with a range of owl themed crafts and activities. When: from Saturday.

6. CHILDREN: Half Term Activity Pack at Jewry Wall Museum, Leicester.

7. THEATRE: The Ladykillers at Curve, Rutland Street, Leicester.
