Thousands enjoy slice of Pie Fest 2012 in Melton Mowbray
Over 3,000 pies were sold at Melton Mowbray's inaugural Pie Fest, with organisers claiming that trade in the towns' shops and café's was up by 25% over the weekend. The event in the Market Place has been hailed as a huge success, and looks set to return bigger and better in 2013.
Alongside a wide selection of pie makers selling their products, there were stalls offering free pie making classes, a beer tent and live music. A pie making competition amongst local food outlets was won by Miss B's Tearoom for their Hedgerow Pie filled with apples, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and elderflowers.-

The event was organised by the Melton Mowbray Food Partnership, and Chairman Matthew O'Callaghan told me:
- "It's been a great event and puts Melton Mowbray on the map once again. We are already planning for next year when we hope to hold a bigger event in July or August."
