Children have been praised for doing their bit to help the county go green.

Pupils at schools took part in last week's Big Switch Off campaign by making sure classroom computers, projectors and lights were switched off when not in use.

They joined in with businesses and families across Leicestershire and Rutland to help save electricity as part of the week-long drive, which ended on Sunday.

At Thringstone Primary School, members of the school's Eco Club, which involves 36 pupils, have been behind a competition to measure how much electricity was being used at the school and see which class saved the most electricity.

Teacher Sam Widdowson said: "The children have really enjoyed taking part in this year's Big Switch Off, but they have also been taking it very seriously.

"They have been working really hard to save energy."

Central Networks has been monitoring the amount of energy used and will compare it to the previous week to see how much has been saved.
