"Every person has the right to life, liberty and security; their private and family life should be respected, and they have the right to get married. No-one should be subjected to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, and has the right to a fair trial.

"No-one can be enslaved; or suffer discrimination due to sex, race, colour, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, association with a national minority, property, birth or other status.

"People should have the freedom of thought and religion; and in accordance with law freedom of expression, association and assembly."

Can anyone of reason object to any of the above. These are the main articles from the European Convention of Human Rights, which our Justice Secretary Chris Grayling has just declared should be abolished.

It is time these people were no longer in charge of our nation.

The only way to quit the European Convention on Human Rights is to leave the 47-member state Council of Europe.

The UK would then stand with the two other European countries who are not members. Will Theresa May and Grayling be holding tripartite summits with Belarus and Kazakhstan in opposition to the remaining 46 countries?

Eric Goodyer, Colsterworth.

My wife boarded a bus in the town centre, when the weather was bad and conditions poor underfoot and headed for home in Wigston.

As normal, she pressed the stop button expecting the driver to stop at the usual stop, but it did not and went on to the next one.

She asked the driver why the bells were not working, only to be told that the buses came from London, that loads of them did not have working bells and they could not afford to have them repaired.

So beware when you are travelling by bus – you may face an extra walk when it passes your stop.

AM Morris, Wigston.

“Eric, as per usual, only sees things one way. Right to life, fair enough. Right to cause mass destruction and create terror, absolutely not!!”

“"Every person has the right to life, liberty and security; their private and family life should be respected, and they have the right to get married. No-one should be subjected to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment......"

Eric appears to have a very 'selective memory!' Does he not remember Tony Blair who 'hoodwinked' parliament to involve our country in the war in Iraq against the public will, costing hundreds of thousands of innocent lives, Blair's 'open-door' immigration policy that undermined the security of our nation, the Staffordshire hospitals fiasco, brought about by New Labour's 'target-oriented' policies and the loss of lives due to this? Eric says, "It is time these people were no longer in charge of our nation." I wholeheartedly agree, but a return to a Labour government will solve absoluely nothing and create even more problems for the public to endure !”
