Disabled young people have praised Loughborough businesses for being easy to access and providing friendly staff.

Youngsters with learning, developmental and physical disabilities gave their verdict on the town at an event organised by Charnwood Youth Council.

They were asked to fill in a survey about access for disabled young people, with 100 per cent of respondents saying most shops are easy to access while 89 per cent found the majority of residents and shop keepers are friendly and helpful.

Luke St-Denis, leader of Charnwood youth council, said: "When it comes to access issues, it's important for us to ask young people with learning and developmental disabilities, as well as physically disabled young people, because the barriers for them can be less obvious.

"In general, they love Loughborough."

Councillor David Snartt, Charnwood borough council's cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: "What a fabulous result for Loughborough. We can be really proud of our town.

"Well done, Charnwood Youth Council, for another creative way to ensure the voices of disadvantaged youngsters are heard."
