Charlton Athletic boss Chris Powell has said he would be interested in taking Leicester City's Jeff Schlupp on loan.

Schlupp is currently training with Manchester United and Powell said if nothing came of it he would like to take Schlupp to the Valley.

"I hope it goes well for him, but if it doesn't there is another team in red that he can always wear the shirt of," said Powell.

"We will just have to wait and see on that one. I have kept a close eye on Jeff. He played when I took the development team (at Leicester).

“Ridiculous to sell our prize academy player but I have been saying that Pearson is hell bent on outing him one way or another. He will only increase in value and improve whereas we will not recover outlay on Vardy who looked a good signing but has not and will not improve. The problem is if we do get promoted JV has to go as there is no possibility of him playing Premiership football even as a bit part player. Schlupp has potential and is versatile.”

“Was listening to Powell on Talk Sport today. He was talking about about his career and influences, He had a lot of good things to say about Pearson.

WRT Schlupp how can anyone say he will never make it as a permanent player. With our injury prone defenders he may still have a big part to play this season.”

“In my humble opinion If it comes to nothing at Man U. I think we could play Jeff in the position he has learned his trade in the academy, that of a striker. Also he could be cover for Konch. If Chris Powell wants him he must be a decent player.
Jeff is only a young man and the type of player that could shine in the Premier League later on in his carrier. So let's keep him I think we will regret selling him, or sending him to Charlton. I wonder if Chris would take Jamie Vardy for the rest of the season?”

“Powell's connections with Schlupp and this club means he would look after him.

They are not in contention for the play-offs yet, so any effect Schlupp had on beating our other top team competition would be an added advantage.

Schlupp needs game time and a loan to Charlton with a parent club clause not to play against us can only be good for us, Schlupp and Charlton.

If of course we do not need him as cover for Konch.”

“loans are no good except to save a salary so sell him if hes that good in Powells opinion
but he will never be a permanent first team player for LCFC.”
