Triumph Motorcycles has launched a new model.

The Hinckley company has entered the touring market for the first time with the 1215cc Trophy.

A spokesman said: "The Trophy is the third new model to be launched over the past 18 months, confirming Triumph's continued investment in design, technology and engineering. The Trophy is packed with a host of technology features, many of which come as standard.

"At the heart of the Trophy is the same characterful three-cylinder engine developed for the award-winning Tiger Explorer."

The bike will make its first appearance in Leicestershire at a Triumph event at Mallory Park, Kirkby Mallory, between August 31 and September 2.

It comes after bosses announced earlier this year it was creating 40 engineering jobs to help it develop new models.

The 118-year-old business saw profits increase by 48 per cent, to £22.3 million, in the year to June 30.

The company, which now produces 23 different models, sold 48,684 machines over this period, up 7 per cent on the previous 12 months.

The company is currently building its first factory in India.

The firm, which employs 600 people in Hinckley, already produces bikes in Thailand.

“I think this company shows this country could once again be a world leader with the right caliber of management design and work force. Pity they could not take over Government. Well done do not change.”
