Timeline: How the hostage drama unfolded
May 29, 2007: Gunmen seize Peter Moore and his bodyguards.
December 4, 2007: Gordon Brown calls for the release of the hostages, five days after the kidnappers say they will kill one of the men unless British troops withdraw from Iraq in 10 days.
February 26, 2008: Video showing Peter pleading for the release of nine Iraqi prisoners is broadcast on Al-Arabiya TV.
February 29, 2008: Pauline Sweeney, Peter's stepmother, issues a plea for his release.
July 19, 2008: A video passed to the Sunday Times claims one of the five men, known only as Jason, killed himself on May 25, four days short of the first anniversary of their abduction.
September 28, 2008: The kidnappers offer to hand over Jason's body in exchange for female and elderly Iraqi detainees.
December 23, 2008: The families of the hostages speak of their anguish during Christmas.
March 20, 2009: Video footage of Peter "looking well" is seen by his father. Peter repeats his call for the release of the Iraqi prisoners.
