Great Glen: Carol and Sue Morris, standard bearer and poppy sellers for Great Glen British Legion, have thanked Leicester City fans for their generosity while they sold poppies at the match against West Bromwich on November 7.

Carol said: "I have never been inside a football stadium in my life, but what an eye opener my visit to the Walkers Stadium Poppy Match was.

"Their thanks and support for the legion's work, and also for our soldiers fighting in Afghanistan, was made evident by their generous gifts which filled our bucket.

"Two fans came to us with bags filled with money they had collected the previous night from their pubs.

"At half time we joined other standard bearers to carry our standards around the stadium, as fans stood and clapped. This surprising, amazing, lump-in-the-throat experience is one we shall cherish and remember for a very long time."

South Wigston: Churches Together in South Wigston is holding an advent service at the Congregational Church, in Blaby Road, on Sunday, November 29 at 6pm with United Churches choir.

Great Glen: Leicester Grammar School at Great Glen held a short remembrance and wreath-laying service at the school. Following this, they drove to the war memorial on the village green to pay tribute to the fallen.
