Leicester Mercury

My colourful display of Leicester gig tickets from the golden years of rock 'n' roll, brought this cheery response from Mrs Heather Hewing, of Syston.

"After seeing the tickets Mr Barry Bedford sent you of the shows at De Montfort Hall in the 1960s, happy memories came back.

"My two best friends and I used to go on Sunday afternoons. We would buy tickets to stand – sometimes seats, but not very often.

"We saw all the great bands: the Stones, Dave Clarke Five, the Kinks, Gerry and the Pacemakers and many more.

"But the most memorable occasion was meeting the Hollies. While we were on our way to the show, we went into the Belmont Hotel and there they were! We went to talk to them and they were so nice to us. They signed our autograph books. It was an unforgettable afternoon – and I still have my autograph book.

"They were great days!"
