No-one would dispute that the attack by a fox on two sleeping babies in their home was an horrific event.

Two of the reasons why foxes have moved into our cities are the destruction of their natural habitat and the plentiful supply of food which is discarded in our streets.

When hunting was suspended during the foot and mouth outbreak it made no overall difference to the fox population.

Hunting is not an effective method of culling foxes. Fox hunting satisfies the hunters' desire to chase and kill.

Ann Bond suggests bringing back fox hunting and "extending the hunts' area to many towns and cities" ("Hunting needs to go urban", Mailbox, June 14). Ann, you can't be serious!

I suggest you watch "Minority pastime – a letter to David Cameron" on the internet to see the mayhem caused by hunting in the countryside, never mind suggesting that this barbaric activity should take place in towns and cities.
