Victim of car crash named

A man who died after two cars crashed has been named by police.

John David Jinks, 23, of Sapcote Drive, Melton, was killed when his black Mini Cooper S was involved in a crash with a silver Vauxhall Astra.

He was declared dead at the scene.

The female passenger of the Astra, who was airlifted to hospital, is in a critical but stable condition after suffering serious injuries.

The accident happened just before 2.30pm on Tuesday on the A607, Leicester to Melton road, near its junction with Gaddesby Lane, in the parish of Rotherby, near Melton.

The driver of the Astra was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment after he received chest injuries.

The passenger was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre, in Nottingham, by air ambulance.
