Villagers are split over Kibworth merger vote
Villagers in Kibworth Harcourt have voted not to merge parish councils with their bigger neighbours Kibworth Beauchamp.
In a parish poll yesterday Harcourt residents overwhelming rejected the move.
However, only a quarter of the residents eligible to vote went to the poll with 221 (69 per cent) voting no and 91 (31 per cent) voting yes.
Fewer than one in five of the voters in neighbouring Beauchamp took part in the poll.

However, they voted overwhelmingly in favour of the merger.
Residents in Beauchamp recorded 549 votes in favour (87 per cent) and 84 votes against (13 per cent).
The results are not binding and are merely advisory.
The results will be collated as part of the Harborough District Council community governance review.
The district council was urging the merger to increase efficiency and save money.
It is unlikely the merger will now go-ahead.
