Birstall United Vixens booked their place in the next round of the Under-13 County Cup with a 5-3 victory over Oadby Wigston Starlets.

Birstall knew that this would be a tough match as Oadby are top of the league and have not lost a match this season.

Sure enough, Oadby raced into Birstall's half, testing keeper Lucy Hayward.

Birstall quickly found their feet and, following a corner by Courtney Preston, Oadby's keeper made a fine save.

Seven minutes in and Birstall's Amy Collins took the ball and ran down the line, passing it to Poppy Gordon. She played it on to Evie Crane, who popped the ball into the net.

The game continued at some pace with Oadby managing the better passing. When they got the ball, the team showed they all had pace and would often outrun Birstall. On many occasions, Hayward prevented Birstall from losing their advantage.

EJ Gordon came on for Collins and played a ball to her sister, Poppy. She found Emily Gunn, who moved it on quickly to Crane only for the ball to end up in the keeper's hands.

Birstall went 2-0 up when defender Bailey Kay launched the ball from the halfway line and it soared into the net. Oadby scored just seconds later following a deflection.

The second half started with Collins making it 3-1 from a fine pass by Poppy Gordon.

Oadby would not slow down and Hayward was further tested, having to come out of the goal to grab hold of the ball.

Oadby were continually attacking and were rewarded with two quick goals which brought the game level.

The pressure was now on for Birstall. Following a tackle by Oadby, Birstall were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Poppy Gordon, who powered the ball into the back of the net. Birstall were again in the ascendancy.

Still Oadby pushed foward but Birstall continued to counter attack. Again Poppy Gordon, Collins and Wortley ran down the pitch only for Wortley to fire wide.

With just minutes to go,Gunn took the ball, passing it to Collins, who scored to make the final score 5-3.
