WEATHER UPDATE: Flights from East Midlands Airport resume after snow cleared from runway
East Midlands Airport has resumed flights after the runways were cleared of snow.
The runway was shut shortly after 10pm on Sunday night due to the heavy snowfall, resulting in numerous cargo flights and 32 passenger flights being cancelled or delayed.Incoming flights were diverted to other airports in the region.
The runway was re-opened at 2.05pm today and all flights will either be rescheduled to leave this afternoon or else passengers will be flown out on alternative flights.
Gritters are still out throughout the county today trying to clear the roads. Traffic has been slow in many areas and more than 200 primary and secondary schools remain closed.
