Water supplier Severn Trent has seen its income rise, despite a fall the amount of water used by customers.

The company, which supplies households and businesses across Leicestershire, said water consumption was down 3 per cent in the six months to September 30.

However, turnover was up 3.6 per cent, to £917.7 million, after regulators allowed the business to increase prices by 5.2 per cent.

Pre-tax profit fell by 2.6 per cent, to £267.2 million, because of the cost of investment in sewers and water treatment works.
