“I have travelled to & from work up the A426 for nigh on the last 15 years and although the junction the junction has been slightly improved during that time, it is still as dangerous as it ever was. I have seen and experienced people misjudging the speed of approaching vehicles and narrowly avoiding accidents.
Personally I think to make the junction safer, to avoid another tragedy, there needs to be either traffic lights or another roundabout introduced to the road. Reducing speed limits won't have any effect but a roundabout will slow the traffic flow and keep the traffic moving at the same time.”

“Knowing both this junction very well, and the family involved in the incident I feel that Truecarlos' comment is correct. The junction needs some sort of redesign, and as Graham has said, a lower speed limit "might" work, but in reality it won't.
I personally feel that the best thing that could happen here would be to put in traffic lights, similar to the new set recently installed on the B4114/Croft Road junction between Cosby and Croft.”

“I also wondered about the red arrows - I can only think that they are incapable of formulating and presenting a rational counter-argument, and therefore probably come from the same niche of society that also ignores speed limits/no overtaking/licence/insurance and MOT and other such restrictions or requirements too...”

“@ Graham_LE8
I am glad to see someone agrees and thinks with a level head.
i would like to ask why the 2 people who rated my post negative to explain why my expression of a dangerous would warrant being a bad comment? i was in no way detracting from the tragedy of the crash, this is a clearly dangerous junction for any form of transport and this will not be the last collision there until something gets sorted, maybe a roundabout to slow the flow?
Could i ask do they work for the for the councils budget dept?”

“I cannot disagree with Truecarlos' comment - this a dangerous stretch of the A426, and the staggered junction at Countesthorpe Road can only be described as nasty. The obvious knee-jerk reaction is to impose a lower speed limit than present, extended to some point south of Springwell Lane;
Without enforcement however, it will be meaningless, as almost everytime I drive near the Dog & Gun I'm overtaken by someone determined to get past and oblivious to the hatched area supposedly preventing such manouvres. If they ignore the present driving restrictions, why would they take notice of any new ones? Utter madness...”

“Very sad news and thoughts to all.
The local authorites need to address the junction, it is a dreadful place to get out of and drivers driving to fast off and on the approach to the roundabout further up near the Dog and Gun.”
