A 52-year-old man was arrested in connection with the collision and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Neighbours said yesterday they were stunned by her death.
One woman said: "Sally was such a lovely woman. We cannot believe this has happened."
Detective Inspector Dave Richardson, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area and saw the collision to contact us.
"We are also interested in speaking to witnesses who saw the car prior to the incident, in the area of the ring road near to the roundabout at Leicester Racecourse and along to the scene of the collision on Gartree Road.
"We have released a picture of the car in the hope that it will remind witnesses and encourage them to come forward."
