Work has started on a £1 million extension and refurbishment of a school.

Lutterworth High School is having a drama and dance studio created, along with a dining room and flexible learning zone for group work, meetings and creative lessons.

In addition, the roof on the entire school is being replaced, over the course of the next 22 weeks.

All of the work should be complete by the end of July.

Business manager Helen Chadwick said: "It's exciting to see work getting under way. This has been planned for the past eight months and once completed will give us a vibrant, contemporary space to dine in, as well as extra room for flexible learning."

Money has come from the school's capital funds, while £560,000 for roof work was granted from the Government's Education Funding Agency.

GSSArchitecture designed the extension and contractor Jeakins Weir is carrying out the building work.

A GSSArchitecture spokesman said: "This project is the second major stage of the whole campus masterplan."
