Yann Kermorgant could be on his way out of Leicester City but fellow striker Steve Howard is set to stay.

Kermorgant has failed to impress new City boss Paulo Sousa and is considering an offer of a season-long loan with French League One side AC Arles-Avignon.

If Kermorgant agrees, he could leave within days. However, Howard has impressed Sousa during pre-season and the City manager has expressed his desire to keep the 34-year-old striker.

Howard had been the subject of an approach from Huddersfield Town, who offered £300,000, and his future at the Walkers Stadium appeared uncertain.

Despite reports, City have not yet offered Howard a new contract but Sousa has made it known he wants to keep the striker, who has one year left on his current deal.

Kermorgant has struggled to make an impact since arriving at City last season.

The 28-year-old had wanted to test himself in English football and backed himself by agreeing to a short trial period under former City boss Nigel Pearson.

Pearson was sufficiently impressed to offer the Frenchman a two-and-a-half year contract and Kermorgant showed glimpses of what he was capable of. But he struggled to hold down a regular place in the team and was used in a variety of positions. However, he did make an unfortunate impact in the penalty shoot-out of the play-off semi-final second leg at Cardiff when his attempted chip was easily saved and City went on to lose – and miss out on a place in the Wembley final.

Kermorgant was heavily criticised, and his unhappy time at the club could now be set to end.

Howard had a mixed campaign last season. He did not start well and it took him until December to score his first goal.

He was predominantly used as a substitute as Pearson opted for the strike partnership of Martyn Waghorn and Matty Fryatt.

However, Howard returned to the side towards the end of the campaign and became an influential figure, scoring three times in four games.

He was also arguably City's best player on that fateful night in Cardiff.
