Leicestershire are continuing to produce young cricketers to play for England age-group sides.

Shiv Thakor, 16, and Tom Wells, 17, have both been named in the England under-18 squad to tour India in February.

The County have now supplied eight players for England age- group sides in the past 18 months.

As well as Thakor and Wells, Josh Cobb, Greg Smith, James Taylor, Nathan Buck, Alex Wyatt and Ben Collins have all earned international recognition.

County chief executive David Smith said: "A consistent pipeline of good young English qualified players have developed through the Leicestershire and Rutland system and there are others in the system already identified to follow."

He added much of that was down to the work of senior coach Tim Boon and the rest of the County coaching staff.

"Leicestershire are totally committed to producing young England-qualified players through our development system."

Thakor has long been regarded as a high-class prospect. He is a top-order batter who is also a useful fourth seamer.

Wells, son of former Leicester Tigers flanker and coach Jon Wells, is an opening, or first-change, bowler and useful late-order batsman.

Both players have come through the County development system and are currently with Leicestershire's Academy.
