“Are people more worried that this kid was on a bike or that he was a thief? Do you think for a minute that if he's prepared to rob people that he cares where he cycles? Some of the logic shown on this commetns page has litterally caused me to facepalm myself. I despair.”

“I am totally aware the area surrounding the clock tower is to be shared by cyclists and pedestrians which would be fine - if all cyclists were considerate. As anyone who walks around that area knows some of the younger cyclists absolutely are not.

@roundthehorne. I think a thief on a cycle would have the edge on a mugger so don't really get your argument.”

“Unfortunately young people cycling around Gallowtree Gate at speed is now a daily occurrence. This should be tackled asap.”

On a serious note, i hope the woman involved is ok and this near miss hasn't affected her too much.”

“Gllowtree Gate is a clearly marked 'shared use' area. In any case, this has nothing at all to do with cycling. Next time a mugger on foot attacks someone, should we implement a no pedestrians policy?”

“djhlm, couldn't agree more, twice i've been knocked down by cyclists who just left me on the ground. I now walk on the cycle paths as they are empty with all the cyclists on the pavement.”

“Cycling is allowed in Gallowtree Gate (and Humberstone Gate) - and has been for several years. And a good thing too. This is about criminality not cycling!

p.s. surely there must have been CCTV footage of this? It's all over Gallowtree Gate.”

“The police or city wardens need to implement a no cycling policy, as far as i am aware pavement cycling is still illegal in this country ?”
