Five people arrested as part of a £1 million stamp duty fraud investigation are due to appear before police again next month.

Four people from Leicester and one from Harrow, north west London, were arrested in dawn raids on December 7 on suspicion of stealing £1 million through a stamp duty land tax fraud and associated money laundering offences.

The people arrested in Leicester were two women, aged 36 and 44 at the time of the raids, and two men, aged 37 and 63.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) said the fifth person was a 32-year-old woman, originally from Leicester, who was arrested in Harrow.

The five were interviewed under caution by HMRC officers at police stations.

All have been bailed until March 7 to Keyham Lane police station, in Leicester.

During the December raids, one home and one business premises were searched.

Stamp duty land tax is paid by buyers on new properties.
