A business model to help voluntary groups
Oakham: Rutland County Council is to hosting a seminar on November 2 from 10am-4pm at Barleythorpe Training and Conference Centre to help promote the development of voluntary and community organisations across the five Welland Partnership areas (Rutland, East Northamptonshire, Harborough, Melton and South Kesteven).
The seminar will focus on how these organisations can generate more income by becoming a social enterprise – a business whose profits are reinvested back into the business or community, rather than maximising their profit for the benefit of shareholders or owners.
Such businesses are usually driven by social and environmental objectives, for example, local social enterprise – 'Out of The Rut' who provide employment opportunities for people with learning and/or mental health issues to gain confidence by obtaining and engaging in employment in a voluntary or paid capacity.
Out of The Rut works on a range of projects in the community – which include motorcycle mechanics, leaflet distribution and horticulture.
The seminar is free and includes lunch. Attendees from the Third and Public sectors (voluntary and community organisations) will be able to find out more about the meaning of Social Enterprise and its value in developing projects which provide services to vulnerable people in the community. There will also be presentations from existing Social Enterprises, including Out of the Rut.
