Where to buy your Christmas tree in Leicestershire this festive season

Christmas may still seem a long way off, but with just over a month to go it's time to start planning the exciting stuff - like finding a tree.

There are no shortage of fake ones for sale on the High Street and if that's what you want then any of the major retailers such as Argos, John Lewis or even Tesco should see you right.

But if it's the real thing you are after then wrap-up warm and make it a family day out.

1) Bradgate Park, Warren Hill, Loughborough. 07852513045. Bradgate Park's seven-acre Christmas tree plantation is opposite the Old John car-park. Open every day from November 24 from 9am till 6pm. Dig up your own tree or have one cut. Trees start from £5 per foot depending on the variety chosen.

 2)  Gelsmoore Nurseries, Gelsmore Road, Coleorton, Coalville. 01332 810611. Open seven days a week from 8.30am to 4.30pm. The whole family can come along and choose their tree. It's just a few miles from Donington race track and East Midlands airport. Cash only. 

3) Oakberry trees, Oakberry Farm Lutterworth Road, Dunton Bassett. 01455 208879. Open  from December 1, every day from 9am till 7pm until Christmas Eve when it closes at 4pm. Delivery available for a small charge, call for further details.  See the website: www.oakberrytrees.co.uk

4) Sense Valley Forest Park Christmas trees, Ravenstone Road, Ibstock, Leicestershire. Open at weekends only from 10am till 4pm on December 1 and 2, 8 and 9, 15 and 16 and 22. On December 9 there is also a farmers' market from 10am till 4pm. 07768704656.  See the website: www.forestry.gov.uk

5) Grange Farm Christmas trees, Welham Road, Thorpe Langton, Market Harborough. 01858 545109. Specialises in real and artificial Christmas trees plus decorations and mistletoe tree stands. 

6) Gates Garden Centre, Somerby Road, Cold Overton Leicestershire. 01664 454309. Trees available from December 1. Open Monday to Saturday from 8am till 5.30pm and Sunday from 8am till 5pm. See the website: www.gatesnurseries.co.uk
